Professor Andrew Patton has been named the Zelter Family Professor of Economics, effective July 1. Endowed by alumnus James C. Zelter ’84, the chair was created to support the mission of the DFE to combine research, teaching, and academic study in financial economics.

The Duke Financial Economics Center is excited to host three finance competitions for undergraduates this semester: the PEAK6 Business Strategy Competition in March, and the Morgan Stanley Equity Research Competition and the Deutsche Bank Finance Game Show in April.
For the third consecutive year, a team of Duke seniors took the top prize at the Carolina Hedge Fund Challenge, winning $10,000 and free registration for the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation exam.
Duke Economics faculty members John Caccavale and Emma Rasiel are leading the third Duke in London Finance program this summer. Students in the program will do much of their learning in the conference rooms, offices, and trading floors of multinational financial institutions.
Recent graduates Tony Hernandez and Max Lipscomb were awarded the 2015 DFE Leadership Award in recognition of their significant impact while participating in the Duke Financial Economics Center and other finance-related activities on campus.
The DFE hosted two competitions in April that allowed students to try out the roles of consultants and buy-side equity analysts. Selected participants presented in teams to representatives from the sponsoring firms.
The Financial Education Partnership wrapped up a successful fall competition season in early December, with 66 sophomores and 115 juniors participating in one or more of the four competitions offered.
