| How have the flexibility, inter-disciplinary programs of study, and range of concentrations in the Economics master's program enriched your experience? | |||
The Master's in Economics program at Duke allows students flexibility in terms of the types of courses they wish to take. Given that I would like to continue to Ph.D. studies, I have chosen to take math courses necessary to make my application competitive. However, should I decide to postpone Ph.D. studies, I will have gained a strong analytical background that will facilitate my entry into the workforce. |

| Regarding the collaborative efforts of students differed from previous experience | |||
| Master's students often collaborate to discuss different approaches to solving problems, and more generally, to increase their understanding of class material. During my first semester at Duke, I found the advice and support enthusiastically offered by upper classmen to be very helpful to managing academic pressure and adjusting to graduate student life. | |||
| Comment on the level of both course content and academic competition, and how this changed you | |||
| Graduate school requires students to assume greater responsibility for their learning than at the college level. A broad treatment of the material is given in lecture and students are expected to fill in the gaps and find ways to test their understanding on their own. While the level of academic competition is high, it pushes students to seek a more flexible understanding of class material. As a result, I have adapted my approach to studying and test-taking. In addition, I have learned how to channel pressure into positive, productive energy. |
