Koru Mindfulness offered by DFE
A core value of the Duke Financial Economics Center is teaching students life skills that will serve them not only professionally but more broadly as they embark on their post-college lives. DFE now offers the Koru Mindfulness curriculum, an evidence-based mindfulness training program that is designed to meet the needs of college-age students.
In four 75-minute classes, students learn how to
- more effectively manage stress through skills training
- become more aware of thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their stress levels
- build and sustain a meditation practice
Koru was developed by mental health practitioners at Duke Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and has grown in popularity well beyond Duke. In a randomized, controlled trial of Koru, students reported feeling more calm, mindful, rested, and compassionate toward themselves.
Students who are interested in enrolling in a DFE-offered Koru course should sign up for the DFE Email List to receive notifications when courses are scheduled. Courses are taught 1-2 times each semester.
