M.A. in Economics (MAE)
Advising
Students meet with their assigned academic advisors prior to starting classes and generate a comprehensive course plan. MAE students are allowed to take Ph.D.-level courses, but by permission only.
Committee
Each student has a master's committee that consists of an academic advisor, the M.A. program director, and the director of EcoTeach or his/her designated faculty representative.
M.A. in Analytical Political Economy (MAPE)
Advising
Students meet with their assigned academic advisors prior to starting classes and generate a comprehensive course plan.
Committee
Each student has a master’s committee of three faculty members drawn from the two departments, with both departments having faculty representation on each committee. The committee chair serves as primary advisor. The committee is selected before the start of the second year of the student’s program, and must be proposed and formally approved by the start of the second year. Committee constitution is based on the primary orientation of the student at that point: If primarily economics, the chair and one other member come from the Economics Department, the other from Political Science; if primarily political science, the chair and one other member come from the Political Science Department, the other from Economics. The determination is made by the student is made by the student in consultation with her/his MAPE advisor and the MAPE directors.
M.S. in Economics & Computation (MSEC)
Advising
Students meet with their assigned academic advisors prior to starting classes and generate a comprehensive course plan.
Committee
Each student has a master’s committee of three faculty members drawn from the two departments, with both departments having faculty representation on each committee. The committee chair serves as primary advisor. The committee is selected before the start of the second year of the student’s program, and must be proposed and formally approved by the start of the second year. Committee constitution is based on the primary orientation of the student at that point: If primarily computer science, the chair and one other member come from the Department of Computer Science Department, the other from Economics; if primarily economics, the chair and one other member come from the Economics, the other from Computer Science. The determination is made by the student in consultation with her/his MSEC advisor and the MSEC directors.
M.S. Quantitative Financial Economics (MQFE)
Advising
Students receive extensive individual advising for both academic and career tracks; course selections are based on students' specific interests and on recommendations made by their academic advisors in order to meet their longer-run goals.
Committee
Each student has a master's committee that consists of an academic advisor, the MQFE program director, and the director of EcoTeach or his/her designated faculty representative.
