Duke University held its 158th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday morning, May 16, at Wallace Wade Stadium. Immediately following, the economics department held its Graduation Recognition Ceremony in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

This year the Department of Economics recognized six graduates with a Ph.D, 35 graduates with a Master of Arts, 160 graduates with a First Major in economics and 37 graduates with a Second or Third Major in economics.

Various speakers addressed the audience of students, family and friends, and faculty leaders helped distribute diplomas.

Professor Michelle Connolly was the honorary faculty speaker chosen by Department Chair Patrick Bayer in recognition of her outstanding teaching and leadership in the department during the past several years. Connolly has contributed greatly to the development of the honors and the Duke in New York programs.

The student speaker for the event was graduating senior Andrea Coravos, who earned high distinction recognition for her excellent economics work. Coravos recently received the Outstanding Honors Poster - Faculty Choice Award and participated in the Undergraduate Honors Research Symposium.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what my fellow Duke Econ alums do post-college," said Coravos, who will begin working at McKinsey & Company this summer. "They have been an inspiring influence over the past four years."

The Department congratulates all graduates in the Class of 2010.
