Seven years after the 2008 housing market crash that precipitated the recent financial crisis, there are signs that the economy is improving — thanks, in part, to a growing housing market, reports personal finance social network WalletHub.

WalletHub's new report evaluates the health of the housing market in 25 big cities across the United States and features expert commentary from Professor Charles Becker.

Becker, whose research specialties include urban and real estate markets, offered advice to consumers looking to purchase a home and weighed in on the role the government should play in promoting homeownership.

“Personally, I believe that policy should aim at encouraging households with modest wealth to purchase some housing — typically manufactured housing that would be located in parks,” Becker said.
