Duke Economics has launched a new online admissions center and admissions FAQ website to help prospective master’s students during the application process.
“Duke Econ’s website is constantly evolving to keep up with its various constituents’ needs,” said Sarah Tung, communications specialist for the department. “And as our master’s programs have grown, so too has the need for a section of the website devoted to the graduate admissions process.”
The Department of Economics currently offers three distinct master’s programs: M.A. in Economics, M.S. in Economics and Computation (MSEC), and M.S. in Statistical and Economic Modeling (MSEM). Each is designed to offer students the quantitative and analytical skills they need in preparation for doctoral programs and careers in economics, finance, and related fields.
Prospective applicants are invited to learn about each program at its respective page, which outlines program requirements and provides course information.
“Most of the answers prospective students have can be found on our website,” said M.A. Staff Assistant Addie Stagg. “Our own students commonly refer to the individual program pages to make sure they’re on track to graduate."
General information, such as applicant qualifications, admissions statistics, and financial aid availability, was once included on each program’s page, but it has now been moved to the admissions center.
“Because many of our applicants apply to more than one Duke Econ program, we hope that consolidating all this information in one place will make it easier for them to find what they need,” Graduate Studies Program Coordinator Jennifer Becker said.
More specific details about the programs and the application process itself can be found on the department’s comprehensive admissions FAQ website, which includes application instructions and admissions FAQs from The Graduate School.
The FAQ website was also designed to provide another form of communication between the department and its master’s programs applicants. Professor Emma Rasiel, the director of M.A. admissions, will be hosting three “Ask the M.A. Admissions Director” (AMA) sessions on the site, during which applicants can ask any further questions they may have that are not already answered on the FAQ site.
Applicants are invited to check the FAQ website regularly for dates and instructions for the AMAs.
