Aino Levonmaa, a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Practice at Duke University, is heading back to Oxford University to complete her PhD. Levonmaa's research will be in the area of market microstructure, focusing on the corporate bond market, which draws on her practical experience as a bond trader at Fidelity Investments in London.
The decision to return to Oxford was inspired by Levonmaa's time at Duke. Working at Duke has been a tremendous experience; getting exposure to all the different aspects of academic work has given me a strong impetus to pursue my PhD.
As a core member of the Duke Financial Economics Center, Levonmaa teaches and mentors undergraduates about both theoretical and practical finance. She also acts as an advisor with Dr. Emma Rasiel for undergraduate students writing honors theses.
"Aino's contribution to the Financial Economic Center cannot be overstated. Her creativity, enthusiasm and knowledge of financial economics have been invaluable in driving both the execution and strategy of the DFE," said John Caccavale, Executive Director of the Duke Financial Economics Center.
Prior to coming to Duke, Levonmaa worked at Fidelity Investments in London as a credit analyst and a later as a trader. Levonmaa completed her MPhil in Economics at Oxford University, and graduated from the London School of Economics with a BSc in Accounting and Finance.
