1991 Major: Economics; JD/Law (1994)

How has being an Economics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I loved math but wanted to go to law school. Being an economics major at Duke not only set me up to go to an outstanding law school (also Duke) but also gave me a good foundation to succeed there. Economics has plenty of math, which I liked, but in a practical framework that teaches you how to think analytically, a key skill in law school and as a lawyer."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Economics programs?

"Advice not just for econ majors but for any Duke student: meet and talk to your professors. I wish I had done this more. During your time at Duke, you have access to some of the brightest and most fascinating minds in the country. Four years will pass quickly and you will regret not taking full advantage of it."
