How has being an Economics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"The economics degree launched my career and helped me get my first couple of jobs. It was essential as I applied for my first job on Wall Street, then maintained its relevance as I later pursued graduate degrees in International Economics and Public Policy. I continue to use my base knowledge from Duke, especially in terms of financial markets and behavioral economics, in my current career."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Economics programs?

"Take a wide array of economics classes at Duke. Don’t get pigeonholed into one specific discipline. In addition to quantitative classes such as econometrics, take courses on economic history and philosophy. This is the area where I feel my knowledge is most lacking; I wish I had developed a deeper understanding of the people, circumstances, and broader context that led to the development of the economic theories we use today."
