2001 Major: Economics and Public Policy Studies

How has being an Economics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My Economics major combined with my Public Policy Studies major prepared me for a role in business, more specifically a career in financial services and risk management. My Duke degrees taught me how to think about issues from a variety of perspectives, to write and to present in a concise way that connects with audiences, and to understand relevant quantitative concepts."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Economics programs?

"I would advise that students take calculated risks. For example, take a class that interests you but may not be a current area of strength. Or, look into internships or career opportunities that intrigue you but may not be ones that all of your peers are pursuing. I have been fortunate to have life and career opportunities that I would have been blind to had I not sometimes “taken the road less traveled.”"
