Paul Curtis, B.A. 2005

Managing Director, BD, Hanover Research – Arlington, VA

2005 Major: Economics

How has being an Economics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I assume that having an Economics degree from an institution like Duke built credibility with prospective employers. The specific course work itself only very limitedly intersects with the work I've done at the Corporate Executive Board (4.5 years) and then Hanover Research (coming up on 10 years)."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Economics programs?

"Take as many PRACTICAL, business-focused, and/or entrepreneurial classes as possible. I regret not doing something like the Markets and Management certificate (is that what is was called?). As Duke did not offer a business degree I opted for Econ but ended up in mostly theoretical courses where I think I would have benefited from, and found quite interesting, courses that focused on business, sales, management, etc."
