The Financial Education Partnership hosted the FEP Finance Boot Camp for the second time, running from January 3 – 7. This year 34 juniors who had studied abroad the previous fall semester participated in the event. Students had very busy schedules in order to fit in finance fundamentals and networking opportunities. Beginning Friday, Jan 3, students had individually tailored schedules to maximize their experience.

The program begins with classroom instruction on the fundamentals of accounting, corporate valuation, global markets, asset management, and Bloomberg basics – all of which are topics students seeking an internship in finance should know. The students then have two full days of networking with participating banks. Despite the weather affecting many flights in early January, we were lucky enough to have all our firms participate: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Brownstone, DRW Trading, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley. “There was a great balance of education and networking opportunities,” comments one boot camper.

The goal of the program is to give those juniors who were away in the Fall the FEP finance training and networking that they missed. This is arguably the most important time for a student looking for a career in finance as this precedes the summer internship recruiting season by about two weeks.

“The classes were extremely helpful. Coming from a background of knowing very little about the material, I was still able to keep up with [it]. It was also a fantastic opportunity for networking -- probably more effective than even if I had been going to information sessions in the fall,” explains another junior.

The program is open to all juniors of any major who were away in the fall semester and are interested in obtaining an internship in finance over the summer.
