Monday, October 17

Graduate School Summer Research Fellowship applications due

The Graduate School is currently accepting applications for a number of fellowships for summer 2012 and the 2012-13 academic year, including the Summer Research Fellowship.  All Econ PhD students in Year 3 and 4 who wish to be considered for summer funding are required to submit an application for the Graduate School Summer Research Fellowship. 

 

Students must obtain a letter of recommendation from their adviser for all fellowship applications.

Deadline to Apply to Graduate in December

All students who plan to graduate in December must log into ACES and submit an electronic application to graduate.

 
 

Friday, November 4

Preferred deadline to submit letters of recommendation for job market candidates

Professors providing a letter of recommendation for a job market candidate are asked to email a copy of their letter to Ashli Kjos in Word.  Letter writers should also create an account on Econjobmarket.org and name Jen Counts (jennifer.counts@duke.edu) as their proxy.

Deadline to submit new Committee Approval Form

This fall third-year students will submit their first formal Committee Approval Forms.  Students, when you have formalized your committee, please download this form , type in the names of your 4 committee members, save the form, and email it to Ashli Kjos.

*All new committee forms must be approved by the Dean at least 60 days prior to completion of the preliminary examination.

Deadline to apply to graduate

Graduating students must log in to ACES and submit an electronic application for graduation.  Advisers do not need to approve the application but should discuss the student's plans for completing and defending the dissertation.

 

Tuesday, March 1

Earliest date for third-year students to defend the prospectus (preliminary exam)

This date marks the end of the 60-day waiting period following the approval of a student's committee.

Stay tuned for information on when and how to submit the prospectus paper.

 

Monday, March 14 - Friday, March 18

Field Days

All first-year students will attend one-hour meetings hosted by faculty from each field.  Students will learn about the research being conducted in each field, as well as Graduate Assistant opportunities for the upcoming year.

Deadline for initial electronic submission of dissertation

Deadline to defend prospectus/preliminary exam

All committee members must be present for the prospectus defense and must sign the preliminary exam form.  Students may pick up their form from Jen Counts after submitting a pdf of their prospectus paper.

Deadline to present Fourth Year Preliminary Job Market Paper

All fourth-year students must present a preliminary job market paper in lunch groups during the spring semester.  Students should contact the faculty member responsible for the lunch group of their choice to be added to the spring schedule.
