Michelle Connolly Presented PURC Distinguished Service Award

Professor Michelle Connolly was presented the 2023 recipient of the PURC (Public Utilities Research Center) Distinguished Service Award for her work on February 23nd at the University of Florida.

The PURC Distinguished Service Award recognizes Connolly’s contributions to the field through academic contributions and policy analyses. Connolly has done extensive research in telecommunications, spectrum analysis, and broadband policy.

Previous winners include Jean Tirole, Jean-Jacques Laffont, and Alfred E. Khan.

 PURC, based out of the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business, is “dedicated to research and to providing training in utility regulation and strategy, as well as the development of leadership in infrastructure policy.”

Among other accomplishments, Connolly has served as Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission in 2006-2007 and 2008-2009, presented her research to Congress and been published in top economics journals.

Within the department, Connolly is the head of the Honors Program, has directed study away programming and has consistently been in the top 5% of instructors at Duke.
